MANILA – Rain or Shine Elasto Painters decidedly beat Blackwater Elite 122-98 in the PBA Governors’ Cup yesterday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Painters (7-4) may have a shot at a “twice-to-beat” playoffs incentive depending on the results of the remaining elimination round matches today.

J’Nathan Bullock score 30 points, including three treys, while Raymond Almazan and Gabe Norwood contributed 20 and 15 points, respectively, for Painters.

Trailing 14-15 in the first quarter, Painters went on a huge run behind Norwood, Almazan and Beau Belga for a 25-15 lead. Elite cut the deficit 19-25 but hits from Bullock and Eduardo Daquioag stretched Painters’ lead 30-21.

Blackwater countered with a rally in the second frame to come to within 29-30 but Rain or Shine pulled away 38-29 on back-to-back treys by Daquioag. Then Elite waxed hot offensively behind Allein Maliksi to cut the lead 56-57 at the half.

Elite managed to hang around early in the third 62-61 until Painters unloaded triples from Celedonio Trollano, Maverick Ahanmisi and Bullock to widen the lead 89-77.

Painters continued its hot shooting in the final quarter behind reserve Ronnie Matias and Bullock to build its largest lead 119-91 on hits by rookies Jeramy King, Billy Robles and Dexter Maiquez.

Maliksi top-scored with 29 points while reinforcement Henry Walker added double-double 21 points and 13 rebounds for Elite, which finished the elimination in eighth place (5-6)./PN
