Roxas City celebrates Sinadya fest ‘virtually’

ROXAS City – For the second consecutive year, this city is celebrating its Sinadya Festival and the city’s 315th religious fiesta virtually.

Celebrations started on Dec. 5 and would last up to Dec. 10.

Melvin Galagate, Roxas City Communications Group head and public information officer, said most of the activities are online except for the lighting of the Christmas tree and Christmas parols today. The switch-on ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. at the Roxas City Plaza.

Meanwhile, according to Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, the city government has started decorating the Roxas City Plaza with Christmas lights and lanterns.

“Agud bisan sa simple nga pamaagi mabatyagan sang tanan ang espiritu sang Paskwa kag pagpasidungog kay Birhen Maria,” said Dadivas.

The city mayor urged the people of Roxas City to celebrate their fiesta and Christmas with care and safely.

“Basta ara lang sa gihapon ang paghalong, wala rason nga indi kita maghiwat sang simple nga selebrasyon,” he said.

On Dec. 8 which is the highlight of the celebration, there will be a Mass (“Pamisa kay Maria / Misa Pontifical) at 9 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral. It would be officiated by Jaro Archbishop Most Reverend Jose Romeo Lazo, D.D.

Other religious activities of the local church on Dec. 8 include Himaya Maria (Virtual Spoken Word Poetry Competition), Pasundayag sa Birhen Maria (Cultural Competition), and Amba Maria (Marian Singing Competition)

Meantime, the city government has launched a series of virtual activities such as:

* Digamo – a Food Heritage Showcase by Nanays on Dec.5, 6, 9, 10 and 11

* 036 X Larger Than Life, a landmarks photo exhibit at 10 a.m. at Robinsons Place Roxas on Dec. 6 to 12,

* Sinadya Pasada – a tricycle light-up competition at 6 p.m., Roxas City Plaza

* Bugay – opening and launching of Kulay Tulay, Riverside Market Promenade, and Roxas City Busog Lusog Talino (BTL) Central Kitchen

* Kasanag – Lighting of Christmas Tree and Christmas Parols

* Upod Kita E-Sports League Season I (Final Match) on Dec. 8

* Waswas sa Sinadya – an Online Dance Crew Competition on Dec. 8

* Bitoon, Year 2 – a Fantasy Hair and Make-up Online Competition at 6 p.m. on Dec. 9

* Lagaw – a Promotional and Marketing Video Competition at 7 p.m. on Dec. 9

* K-Connect, — a K-Lokalike Online K-pop Idol Impersonation Contest at 5 p.m. on Dec. 10

* Tugalbo, a Clash of the Universe Online Cosplay Transformation Contest on Dec. 10./PN
