ROXAS City – Beginning June 1, this city will be under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

“(This aims) nga mapunggan ang padayon nga pagsaka sang kaso sang (coronavirus disease 2019) sa aton syudad,” said Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.

The MECQ will be until June 16.

Latest data from the City Health Office (CHO) showed Roxas’ active cases at 221 after 27 additional positive cases were recorded on May 29.

The city also logged 59 deaths and 1,014 recovered cases out of the 1,294 cumulative confirmed cases.

Dadivas held a coordination meeting over the weekend with officials of the city government, Liga ng mga Barangay, punong barangays, representatives from the business sector, transport sector, Roxas City police, Philippine Army, Highway Patrol Group, Philippine Ports Authority, media and other agencies.

Another goal of the MECQ, said Dadidas, is to “mapahagan-hagan ang kakapoy kag kabudlay nga ginaatubang sang aton mga health workers kag community frontliners.”

People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.

These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
