ROXAS City – A robbery suspect who escaped the Roxas City Jail in Barangay San Jose has been rearrested.

The warden Jail Senior Inspector Jairus Anthony Dogelio, who led the manhunt, confirmed that Jason Sta. Maria had been recaptured in Mambusao, Capiz at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Sta. Maria, a 21-year-old resident of Mabini Street, bolted the detention facility on Wednesday.

From what the jail officers have so far gathered, the inmate has learned that his live-in partner was cheating on him.

Sta. Maria escaped 15 minutes after the wakeup call at 4 a.m., Dogelio told Panay News.

“He (Sta. Maria) mingled with the kitchen aides who were preparing their meals to be served at 6:30 a.m.,” Dogelio said. “He may have climbed up the wall of the kitchen.”

Dogelio said they tried reaching out to Sta. Maria’s mother, who often visited him, but to no avail.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) officers found Sta. Maria with a sibling in Mambusao, said the warden.

According to information that reached the investigators, Sta. Maria learned that his live-in partner, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Libas, was living with another man. “This may have been his motive to escape,” Dogelio said.

The BJMP-Roxas had offered a P15,000 reward to anyone who could provide information on the whereabouts of Sta. Maria.

Dogelio said a tip they received from a concerned citizen led the BJMP officers to Mambusao./PN
