ROXAS City – This city logged five deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on June 5.
So far, this was the highest single -ay COVID death toll here since the pandemic started last year, according to City Health Office (CHO).
The five deaths were the following:
* a 52-year-old male government worker who was a resident of Barangay Tiza
* a 43-year-old male from Barangay Tanza
* a 35-year-old male from Barangay Cagay
* a 60-year-old senior citizen from Barangay XI
* a 69-year-old female barangay frontliner from Barangay Lawaan
They brought the total COVID death toll in the city to 68.
Also on June 5, 26 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the city, bringing the total active cases to 290 and the total cumulative confirmed cases to 1,496.
Those who recovered from the infections, on the other hand, already reached 1,138.
In the whole Capiz province, with 564 active cases (out of the 3,066 cumulative cases), Roxas City had the highest number of cases recorded.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
