ROXAS City – Sixty-six suspected cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) were recorded in this city, based on monitoring carried out in barangays Cogon, Dumolog, Tanza and Banica.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said in Barangay Cogon alone, the latest to have suspected cases of the disease, 39 hog heads from two backyard farms died.
Following a report, the City Agriculture Office and the City Veterinary Office immediately inspected the hog farms on Wednesday.
They disinfected the area after the owner buried the dead hogs. The team also took samples from live pigs.
Dadivas ordered strict animal checkpoints in the area to bar the movement of hogs and pork products.
The city mayor reiterated his appeal to the residents to immediately report suspected cases of ASF in their area.
The Department of Agriculture last week confirmed cases of ASF in barangays Dumolog and Tanza./PN
