ROXAS City – Mayor Ronnie Dadivas declared this city as free from the African Swine Fever (ASF).
On September 26, Dadivas issued an executive order (EO) declaring the entire City of Roxas as ASF-free, revoking EO numbers 8 and 10.
The declaration comes after the city mayor received a letter from Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas Regional Executive Director Dennis Arpia stating that “after evaluating all submitted documents, the local government unit (LGU) of Roxas City is now ASF-free based on Section 4.1 to 4.2 of the DA Administrative Order No. 30, Series of 2021 Guidelines for the Recovery and Declaration of Freedom from African Swine Fever (ASF) for Local Government Units (LGU).”
ASF is a highly contagious viral disease of domestic and wild pigs, whose mortality rate can reach 100 percent.
It is not a danger to human health but has devastating effects on pig populations and the farming economy.
To recall, sometime on March 22, 2023 Mayor Dadivas issued EO No. 8 to protect the city’s swine industry.
The EO also aimed to prevent the spread of ASF, and temporary prohibition of exit, buying and selling of hogs and other pork-based products including boar semen for artificial insemination purposes coming from affected places or barangays identified positive for ASF shall be implemented.
To further prevent the spread of ASF in the neighboring barangays, EO No. 10 was also issued which established additional border checkpoint for ASF as part of the city’s containment measures./PN
