ROXAS City – Following the first cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) logged in two barangays here, the city government strengthened its measures to contain the spread of the hog disease.

The Department of Agriculture (DA)-6 confirmed cases of ASF in barangays Dumolog and Tanza here last week. Containment measures were immediately implemented in affected areas.

Spearheaded by assistant department head Ronald Amigo, the offices of City Agriculture and City and Provincial Veterinarians, barangay captains and meat vendors convened to discuss ASF prevention and control.

The city has also activated its ASF surveillance and monitoring and sought the help of the barangay officials.

Dadivas also ordered the strict monitoring and inspection of pork meat, which should have the seal of the city’s slaughterhouse and a Meat Inspection Certificate.

Meanwhile, the City Veterinarian’s Office and City Agriculture Office conducted a surprise meat inspection at Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center.

Roxas City is one of the eight local government units in Capiz with positive cases of ASF. Other towns are Maayon, Dumarao, Pilar, Panay, President Roxas, and Tapaz./PN
