ROXAS City – In its efforts toward an 85% waste-recycled Roxas, the city government has established a new sanitary landfill and acquired new garbage trucks and a road roller.
Since last year, the city has been collecting 100 to 130 tons of waste daily, filling the existing landfill in Barangay San Jose, according to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
“Based on my observation, less than 30 percent of waste is diverted. That is why the city government has stepped in to achieve 85 percent recycled waste, leaving only 15 percent dumped into the landfill,” CENRO officer Ronald Amigo said.
Ronnie Dadivas assured that the new sanitary landfill cell No. 2 in Barangay San Jose is within the standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
“Let us make good use of it through proper waste segregation and disposal so that the facility will last,” the mayor said.
After opening the new sanitary landfill, the city government had a turnover and blessing ceremony for the six brand-new garbage trucks and a road roller.
“All of these are components of having a sanitary and healthy environment here in Roxas City,” Dadivas said.
He encouraged the 47 barangays to procure their garbage trucks.
“I ask for your cooperation and continued support in keeping our city clean, healthy, and an ideal place to live in,” Dadivas stated.
The Dadivas administration has allocated P69 million for the technology-based treatment facility.
A pyrolysis machine and pelletizer are also set to be procured to improve the water waste facility and answer the future garbage requirements of Roxas City. (PIA Capiz)/PN
