ROXAS City – “We have the green light to purchase coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines for our residents,” announced Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.
The city government targets to vaccinate 70 percent of its population to achieve herd immunity or making most of its residents immune from the infectious disease.
“Apang gusto ko lang ipaintindi nga malawig pa nga proseso ang aton agyan halin sa pag-order, alokasyon, produksyon, shipping kag vaccination,” said Dadivas.
The city government has allocated P60 million for the vaccines and that it is talking to at least three vaccine suppliers to ensure that the city will be among those who will first obtain anti-COVID-19 shot.
But the delivery may take time, said Dadivas, “bangud bilog nga kalibutan ang nagakinahanglan.”
The budget was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in its Jan. 12 regular session.
“Our order of priority will be the frontline healthcare workers, uniformed personnel, social workers, other government frontline workers, senior citizens and indigent residents,” Dadivas said.
The mayor is optimistic that the remaining 30 percent population will still be vaccinated through an augmentation from the national government under the Bayanihan To Recover As One Act (Bayanihan) 2.
Roxas City recorded a total of 648 COVID-19 confirmed cases composed of four active cases, 607 recoveries and 37 deaths as of Jan. 12. (PIA Capiz/PN)
