ROXAS City — The city government here is spearheading a cleanup drive focusing on five areas frequented by people.

Dubbed “Ciudad Ko, Tinluan Ko,” the activity zeroes in on the city proper and surrounding streets, Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center, San Roque Street, Arnaldo Boulevard, and Brgy. Baybay.

The cleanup, which started on Monday, is being participated by local officials, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps students, and representatives from government agencies and nongovernment organizations.

Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said the public’s cooperation with the government in maintaining the city’s cleanliness is important.

Dadivas told Panay News that the city’s cleanliness will help boost tourism and the economy.

“The moment nga mag-gasto [ang mga turista], gaayo ang negosyo. Kon nagaayo ang negosyo, maga-expand ang negosyo, ma-hire kita sang damo nga employees,” he said.

The citywide cleanup drive should be a continuous effort, stressed the vice mayor.

Meanwhile, Dadivas said the barangays were instructed to start their own cleanup activities.

Barangay officials here participated in the creation of the city’s 10-year Integrated Solid Waste Management Strategic Plan at the San Antonio Resort in Brgy. Baybay on May 28–30.

The activity was led by the city’s General Services Office./PN
