ROXAS City – The Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) here is almost reaching full capacity. It may declare a time out for new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
“The alarming rate of new COVID-19 patients that require admission has stretched the capacity of the hospital,” according to RMPH in a statement.
A time out would allow the hospital to attend to patients already admitted, they deserve best care available, the hospital management stressed.
RMPH also revealed their supply of medical oxygen have fallen to critical levels due to the lack of funds to procure more, and this is exacerbated by the nationwide shortage in medical oxygen supplies.
The hospital uses between 120 to 130 oxygen tanks daily for its high flow cannulas for severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients.
According to the hospital, medical oxygen suppliers also told them they may not be able to keep up with the demand for medical oxygen because of the heightened demand for supply in other parts of Region 6, particularly in Iloilo.
“The hospital cannot admit more patients without compromising the level of care it gives to its patients and overwhelming its staff and personnel,” it stressed.
The hospital appealed for cooperation from everyone.
As of Sept. 12, Capiz had 729 active cases of COVID-19.
Of the cumulative 7,507 confirmed COVID-19 cases since last year, 6,406 already recovered while 372 died./PN
