ROXAS City — The city government has started apprehending people not wearing facemask in public — while on public transport, government offices and private establishments.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas has deployed compliance officers to enforce the city ordinance requiring people to observe the recommended precautionary measures against coronavirus disease 2019 – wearing of facemask and face shield in public and maintaining physical distance from others.
“These simple health protocols can help protect us all from being infected. Let us protect our families and communities,” said Dadivas.
Some people are not complying with the protocols, he added, perhaps because they think they won’t be punished anyway.
Dadivas said the following penalties would be imposed:
* first offense – P500 fine or half-day (four hours) of community service
* second offense – P3,000 fine or one day (eight hours) community service
* third and succeeding offenses – P5,000 fine and/or six months imprisonment
Dadivas said the community service may be done at Bato Cemetery. Violators would be ordered to clean it.
This is on top of the “no facemask/face shield, no ride” policy being imposed on all public transport, and the “no facemask/face shield, no entry” rule observed in all government offices and private establishments./PN
