Roxas market rehab begins

ROXAS City – The rehabilitation of the city government-run public market here – the Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center (TATC) – started last week.

According to TATC administrator Heloise Mendoza, work will be done phase by phase so as not to displace market vendors.

The first priority will be the fish section; a portion of this was destroyed by Typhoon “Ursula” last year.

To hasten the rehabilitation, the city government employed more workers.

Earlier, Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said the market, already 40 years old, needs expansion.

“Ipakay-o ta ini sang insakto bangud kwarta sang tawo ang ginagamit naton. Indi pwede nga tapal-tapal lang sa atop,” said Dadivas.

The city government wants to transform TATC into a two-storey mall market, clean and environment-friendly.

Funds for the project are the city’s reserved funds and economic enterprise income. It will further get additional allocation from the city’s 20% Development Fund.

The rehabilitation is expected to be completed within 120 days./PN
