BACOLOD City – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Western Visayas will host consultations next month on the petitions to increase the daily minimum wage.
Department of Labor and Employment-Western Visayas director Atty. Sixto Rodriguez Jr. said the department has held deliberations on the “veracity and authenticity” of the petitions filed.
Two labor groups, the United Labor-Western Visayas and the Iloilo Pepsi Cola Workers Independent Union, submitted separate petitions asking for a P100 across-the-board daily wage increase.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, said the proposal pushed by Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri for a P150 wage increase nationwide is still being discussed by the senators.
The consultations will be held in Iloilo and Guimaras on July 5, while Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are set for the second week of July.
The current daily minimum wage rates in Western Visayas, which took effect on June 5, 2022, range from P410 to P450.
Non-agriculture, industrial, or commercial establishments employing more than 10 workers pay P450, while those employing 10 workers or less pay P420.
In the agriculture sector, the daily minimum wage rate is pegged at P410.(With a report from the Philippine News Agency)/PN
