MANILA – Ruel Catalan cruised to his second straight win in the Universal Reality Combat Championship at the Casino Filipino Manila Bay in Ermita district.
The Iloilo City native pounded on George Mascardo with punches and leg lock to come out as the victor via first-round rear naked choke Friday night in the main event of the Battle Extreme Tournament of Superstars series.
It was the second straight win of the 30-year-old Catalan after scoring a split decision victory over Herbert Locre in the Cage Wars-Battle in Legaspi in August in Albay province.
“This is really a good fight for Ruel,” said Catalan Fighting System Philippines coach Rene Catalan. “Ruel is improving every match so we will just continue training hard to further extend his winning streak.”
With the victory, the Catalan Fighting System standout moved up to eight wins and one loss while Mascardo, a native of Dipolog City, dropped to 7-3.
In the undercard match, Ariane Fantilanan of Passi City, Iloilo – also from Catalan’s MMA stable – also scored an impressive victory at the expense of veteran fighter JB Baldonasa./PN
