Run-Negros-Run revival pushed

BY CYRUS M. GARDE

BACOLOD City – Support for the proposed revival of the Run-Negros- Run marathon is growing.

There are calls, too, to involve the Oriental side of Negros Island in the tournament.

Run-Negros-Run was conceptualized 35 years ago and through the years produced some of the best marathoners in the region.

But the tournament fizzled out and had not been staged for several years.

The revived version is being proposed to be named “Negros First Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Run-Negros-Run”.

The inclusion of Negros Oriental towns and cities in the event will dramatize the proposed One Island Negros Region, a sports enthusiast said.

Tentative dates of the Run-Negros-Run are November 8 to 9 in three stages or legs from Dumaguete City to Bacolod City for about 200 kilometers.

Angel “Nonong” Verdeflor, Negros Occidental provincial sports coordinator, will present a plan to Gov. Marañon for the budget.

Verdeflor expects about 30 to 35 teams to join the famous Negros Occidental relay marathon./PN
