COL. Ruperto Abellon National High School captured the crown in the National Basketball Training Center Antique leg after a 109-108 win over Sta. Justa National High School on Sunday at the Barbaza Municipal Gym in Antique.
Fermin Casiano was hailed as tournament Most Valuable Player after submitting 42 markers in the gold medal match.
It was a close game between the two teams in the opening period with the score knotted at 23 apiece. The tight matchup continued in the second frame with the Sta. Justa enjoying a 53-51 halftime advantage.
Col. Rubert Abellon poured it on in the third period behind Casiano to establish an 87-77 advantage but the Sta. Justa countered with a strong run in the fourth but the Col. Rubert Abellon did just enough to escape with a hairline of victory.
Johann Villanueva got a consolation award for the Sta. Justa National High as he was hailed as the three-point king in the tournament.
Both Antique leg finalists will advance in the regionals in Capiz where they will face the representatives from Capiz, Iloilo and Guimaras leg to determine who will advance to the National Finals in Manila./PN
