TWO months after bringing home the Best Supporting Actor plum at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), Ruru Madrid clarified that he has no hard feelings toward Sue Ramirez and Cristine Reyes, after the actresses went viral for their reaction to his winning the award.

Ramirez and Reyes, who were tapped to present the Best Supporting Actor award at the MMFF 2024 Gabi ng Parangal last December, caught the attention of netizens with their seemingly disappointed expressions before announcing Madrid as the eventual winner for the movie “Green Bones.”

Aside from Madrid, also up for Best Supporting Actor were David Ezra, Kokoy de Santos, Jhong Hilario, and Sid Lucero — who was nominated for his performances in “The Kingdom” and “Topakk.” Ramirez and Reyes worked with Lucero on “The Kingdom” which also starred Vic Sotto and Piolo Pascual.

In a sit-down interview with Ogie Diaz which was uploaded on his YouTube channel on Friday, February 14, Madrid said he understood where the actresses were coming from since Lucero was nominated in two categories, which according to the Kapuso star, was a testament to his acting abilities.

Additionally, the “Lolong” star said he bears “no hard feelings” against Ramirez and Reyes considering that they had both worked with Lucero in “The Kingdom,” which automatically makes them root for their co-star.

“Normal [dahil] may dalawang entries [si Sid] and nakasama nila sa isang pelikula. So ‘yun ang iro-root nila. No hard feelings. For me, as long as masaya tayong lahat, nakita ko ang award na ‘to, wala pong problema talaga,” continued Madrid.

Madrid added that he is aware that not a lot of people were aware of his acting abilities before “Green Bones.”

Siguro kasi hindi rin po talaga nila in-expect dahil aminado ako na [bago] ang pelikula na ‘to, hindi naman na-validate or nakita ng mga tao ang kakayahan ko bilang isang aktor,” he said. (Hannah Mallorca © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
