BUENAVISTA, Guimaras – All 36 villages in this town were assured of safe drinking water under the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig Para sa Lahat (Salintubig) Level 3 program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Mayor Eugene Reyes said the DILG has already secured some P10 million for implementation of the water sanitation project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Reyes said the amount was supposed to be released last year but completion of requirements took some time.
The mayor added that recently, the DILG informed him that Buenavista is also a recipient of an additional P12 million for the Salintubig projects, which will be implemented in coordination with the Buenavista Water District.
Salintubig aims to provide water supply systems for waterless municipalities, barangays, health centers, and resettlement sites in the country.
It also wants to enhance the capacity of the local government units and water service providers in the planning, implementation, and operation of water supply facilities.
Currently, 31 out of 36 barangays in Buenavista benefit from the Level 3 Salintubig water systems. The remaining 5 are using either Level 1 or 2 water systems.
“Before, some of our barangays have cases of diarrhea and other waterborne disease every year due to unsafe drinking water,” Reyes said. (With a report from PIA/PN)
