THE Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Visayas will have a new tagline to promote tourism in the region.

Atty. Helen Catalbas, DOT-6 regional director, said that “Safely Experience Western Visayas First” shall be the region’s new tagline to promote tourism destinations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We want to promote tourism while observing safety and health security, at the same time,” she said.

She said the seven-year old “Experience Western Visayas First” slogan and marketing campaign of the department to promote the region to its own residents shall be changed to the new one.

“Now the scenario has changed and some of the figures we get on a daily basis are local transmissions,” Catalbas said, adding that health and safety of the region’s residents and visitors are primary considerations, aside from reviving the local economy and the tourism industry.

She added that in order to be responsive to the needs of the times, they have updated the tagline, and to ensure that tourist destinations and facilities are observing the minimum health standards.

“Our main market now is our residents, eight million of them, but how can we convince them to move out of their residences especially those who can afford and travel within the region?” she said.

Catalbas said she has communicated with the local chief executives of the provinces in the region regarding the new tagline, which will be launched in September, in time for the commemoration of the Tourism Month. (PIA6 Iloilo/PN)
