Safety in school

WE ARE BACK on the coffee table exchanging brilliant ideas and wishful thinking. Face-to-face classes have resumed in schools. Parents, guardians and grandparents fetching their wards in school have something to say

“In public schools, parents or guardians are not given a place to safely wait for their children,” said a father. “It’s as if parents are not part of the school. Schools tend to shoo away parents, most especially those who live far. It’s difficult for them to go back and forth.”

“I agree. The Department of Education must allot a space of rest for parents waiting for their children. They care for their children; school administrations must understand this,” said a lolo. “I hope that VP Sara Duterte will realize the need for this,” he added.

“Local mayors and provincial governors must also realize this safety concern. They could probably allot a budget for this,” said a retired teacher.

“Those parents waiting for their kids sit on sidewalks or have to go farther to find a place to safely wait; it’s a burden.

Maybe schools can have pantry areas where parents can stay and feed their children during lunch break,” said a retired engineer while sipping his cappuccino.

“On another matter, I’m concerned about the government not encouraging the use of school uniforms. I believe this is fine for college students but for safety purposes elementary and high school students need to be in uniform for identity purposes. What if some criminals kidnap kids in civilian clothes,” said a father finishing his black coffee.

“Wearing school uniform is also practical. Poorer students do not have ample clothes to change daily,” the retired engineer stressed.

“Definitely elementary students must be in uniform and the school should issue IDs. The ID is important for the children’s travel and identity verification,” the retired teacher also said./PN
