BACOLOD City – The Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital (AEMSMDH) in Sagay City, Negros Occidental temporarily suspended admissions after hitting full capacity over the weekend.

But the 70-bed AEMSMDH would accept extreme emergency cases, it stressed.

According to the hospital, the number of patients in the emergency room greatly increased.

Most of those admitted were reported to be ill with pneumonia and gastroenteritis.

In an advisory, AEMSMDH urged the public to look for alternative hospitals.

The nearest government-run hospital in the area is the Vicente Gustilo District Hospital in Escalante City, as well as the Cadiz District Hospital in Cadiz City which also acts as the provincial government’s primary COVID-19 treatment facility.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Negros Occidental said it is ready to assist if needed.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said they have reached out to the AEMSMDH.

AEMSMDH is run by the Sagay City government and is not under the provincial government./PN
