MANILA – Jaja Santiago and Saitama Ageo Medics ended their 2021-22 V.League Season campaign on a winning note. They swept Himeji Victorina on Sunday at the Wink Gymnasium.
The 6-foot-5 Filipina import made her presence felt with 12 points, on 10 attacks, one block and a service ace, as the Ageo Medics ended the season at fifth place with 20-13 record.
Santiago, a national women’s volleyball team mainstay, also ended up as the 2021-2022 V.League Season top blocker with her 103 total swats in 33 matches.
The former National University Lady Bulldogs middle blocker was also efficient in spiking as she was fourth in the league at 48.2 percent, on 260-of-539 attempts.
Brazilian Lorenne Teixeira spearheaded the offense for the Ageo Medics with 17 points, with two blocks, while Mami Uchiseto and Yuka Sato combined for 25 markers.
Celeste Plak top-scored for the losing Victorina with 13 points, all from attacks, while Chihiro Sasaki dropped 10 points.
Meanwhile, Marck Espejo and FC Tokyo ended their 2021-2022 V.League men’s tournament campaign with a default win over the JT Thunders due to the latter’s players being tested positive for COVID-19.
FC Tokyo’s weekend games against JT Thunders were awarded to the former instead of being rescheduled since it was the last weekend for elimination round matches.
It turned out to be the last hurrah of FC Tokyo in the tournament after the franchise announced late last year that it will be leaving V.League for good after the season.
The 6-foot-3 open spiker ended 28th in scoring with 224 points in a season where he missed three games due to a shoulder injury and four more due to coach’s decision./PN
