ILOILO City – With better pay, there is no more reason for policemen to engage in illegal activities, according to Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, Western Visayas police director.
At the annual New Year’s Call of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) in Camp Delgado yesterday, Binag said, “Sa taas ng salary ng mga pulis ngayon, ewan ko kung magloloko pa sila.”
This year, the basic monthly pay in the Philippine National Police for Police Officer 1 would be P29,000 up from P14,000.
“I would not hesitate to dismiss them from the service kung magloloko pa sila,” said Binag, reiterating PRO-6’s flagship program, Personnel Management Program.
“All our personnel must acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes for them to be capable, effective and credible. Last year, we began equipping our investigation, intelligence and maneuver personnel with various trainings,” said Binag.
This year, he wanted this intensified.
Increasing the number of drug-related arrests is one of PRO-6’s goals this year, Binag added.
“It is imperative to outdo our performance in 2017. With the memorandum order mandating us to provide support to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the fight against illegal drugs, we are more than ready,” he told police chiefs, city and provincial police directors.
Last year, the PRO-6 made 1,984 arrests in 1,345 antidrug operations.
“We want our police chiefs, city and provincial directors and company commanders to work harder,” said Binag.
Fifteen drug personalities were also killed, including drug lord Richard Prevendido and son Jason in Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City.
“This new year we have much reason to be optimistic,” said Binag. “We have enjoyed the support of local government units. Our latest partnership in bringing down firecracker injuries during Christmas and New Year celebrations was successful. In fact, Antique posted zero injuries.”/PN
