ILOILO City – “Where are the checkpoints,” Senior Superintendent Cornelio Salinas, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), asked the chiefs of police of peripheral towns like Oton, Tigbauan, San Miguel, Alimodian, Pavia, Santa Barbara, Barotac Nuevo and Dumangas.
“Crime prevention is better than crime solution,” he told the police chiefs.
Salinas directed all municipal chiefs of police to keep themselves visible and conduct consistent checkpoints aimed at crime prevention.
Citing a series of “dumpings” of dead persons in the towns of Pavia, Santa Barbara and Barotac Nuevo towns, Salinas lamented that the culprits could have been caught had there been checkpoints.
To recall, all the three dead persons surfaced in the said towns within less than two weeks.
“Occurrence of repeated crimes in similar places,” said Salinas, “means failure on our part in crime prevention.”/PN
