UNIVERSITY of San Agustin and Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion-Capiz emerged as champions in the U-15 and U-12 category of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Chairman’s Cup at the Ledesco Gym of Hua Siong College of Iloilo.
San Ag claimed the crown in the U-15 category after defeating Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix in the championship round. Chad Cartel and Agapito Clarito were hailed as the Chairmen of the match for San Ag.
On their way to the championship round, SanAg ousted Santa Clarita International School Primes-AsiaLink, 82-54, while the Red Phoenix defeated Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, 79-70.
Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion-Capiz, meanwhile, emerged as the champions in the U-12 category as it defeated Team Pavia in the gold medal match.
Colegio de la Purisima entered the gold medal round of U-12 after defeating Iloilo City Elementary School, 87-79, while Pavia ousted Hua Siong College of Iloilo in the other semis, 74-65.
The SBP Chairman’s Cup, which was named after late sportsman and philanthropist Juanito T. Uy, played two categories of basketball.
The format of the league is unique as U12 players born 2007 or 12yrs old will play vs players born on the same year, same with born 2008 & 2009 and only on the 4th quarter that they can be mix./PN
