San Beda, Lyceum beat foes in FilOil basketball

SAN BEDA University Red Lions and Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates surged on top of their respective groups in the 2019 FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup after scoring separate wins on Monday at San Juan Arena.

The reigning UAAP men’s basketball champions Red Lions leaned a huge second quarter run to score a 72-58 victory over the Arellano University Chiefs.

Donald Tankoua tallied 16 points and nine rebounds, James Canlas scored 15 markers, while Calvin Oftana registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards for the Red Lions.

Ilonggo gunner Clint Doliguez also made his presence felt as he finished with 12 points for the Red Lions, which moved up to 4-0 in Group A. The Chiefs dropped to 1-5 win-loss slate.

In the second game, Jayson David spearheaded the attack as the Pirates scored an 86-79 win over Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers. David had 16 markers for the Pirates, which topped Group B with 5-1 card.

Jaycee Marcelino had 13 points, while Renzo Navarro and Yancy Remulla had nine apiece for the Pirates.

MJ Dela Virgen led the way with 20 points, while rookie John Amores scored 18 markers for the Heavy Bombers, which slid down to 1-4./PN
