MANILA – San Beda University Lady Red Spikers remained untarnished in the NCAA Season 95 Women’s Volleyball after a 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 beating of Letran Lady Knights on Jan.24 at the San Juan Arena.

Franchesca Racraquin top-scored with 22 points built on 17 attacks, three blocks and three service aces, while also tallying 23 excellent digs and seven excellent receptions for the 3-0 Lady Red Spikers.

Setter Lynne Matias, NCAA Season 94’s Rookie of the Year awardee, provided the steady playmaking for San Beda with

22 excellent sets that led to the Lady Red Spikers’ 46 spikes.

However, the victory was not a walk in the park for the Lady Red Spikers as they surrendered 32 errors, which the Lady

Knights took advantage of to keep in step with their opponents and even snatched the opening set.

Medyo slow start ‘yung mga bata,” Lady Red Spikers head coach Nemesio Gavino Jr. lamented. “Nung na-aware na sila na natatalo na kami ayan bumawi.”

Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas rallied back from two sets down to usurp Mapua University Lady Cardinals in five sets, 20-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-12, 15-6.

Bianca Tripoli was instrumental in that comeback with 20 points, all coming from attacks, while Jenny Gaviola steered the Lady Altas’ offense with 16 excellent tosses, and Allysa Sangalang anchored the floor defense on 19 digs and 16 excellent receptions./PN
