MANILA ā San Beda College Red Lions bucked the absence of two key players and its head coach to score an 88-70 win over Mapua Cardinals in the NCAA Season 93 menās seniors basketball yesterday at the San Juan Arena.
Amiel Cris Soberano led the way with 17 points, including six three-point conversions.
The Red Lions has now tallied its ninth straight victory to improve to 10-1 win-loss slate.
Jayvee Mocon added double-double 11 points and 10 rebounds, while imports Donald Tankoua and Arnaud Noah had nine points apiece.
The Red Lions played without Robert Bolick and Ilonggo Clint Doliguez. The two served a one-game suspension after being involved in a scuffle during their win over College of St. Benilde Blazers.
Red Lions head coach Teodorico Fernandez was also banned for a game after disrespecting the game officials.
āWhat was noticeable was everybody stepped up, mas maganda angĀ ball movement naminĀ and Iām happy that they didnāt look for a go-to guy. Everybody was able to score kasi maganda ang ball movement,ā said Red Lions team manager Jude Roque.
The Cardinals managed to keep in step with the undermanned Red Lions in the first three quarters before the latter started to pull away early in the fourth quarter by forcing errors.
The Red Lions leaned on a barrage of three-pointers from Soberano and Bacolodnon Jeramer Cabanag to build its largest lead of the match at 88-86 following an inside hit by Davon Potts.
Leo Gabo top-scored with 17 points, while Denniel Aguirre and Bacolodnon JP Nieles added 16 and 13 points, respectively, for the Cardinals, which suffered its 10th consecutive defeat to fall to 1-10 win-loss record.
