MANILA – The San Beda Red Lions advanced to the finals of the NCAA Season 92 men’s seniors basketball with a 78-63 win over the University of Perpetual Help Altas in their knockout semifinals match on Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Rookie Davon Potts led the way with 16 points, including nine in the final quarter, for the Red Lions, which moved on to the NCAA best-of-three finals for the 12th straight seasons.
Robert Bolick chipped in 14 markers, 10 coming in the first half, while Jayvee Mocon contributed double-double 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Red Lions, which will face the Arellano University Chiefs in the finals beginning on Thursday.
The Altas pulled away early in the second frame at 26-17 on a GenmarYlagan basket but the Red Lions leaned on Roldan Sara and Bolick to take a 27-26 edge. It later grew to 37-30 at halftime behind Arnaud Noah and Bolick.
With the Red Lions holding on to a 43-38 lead, it went on a huge scoring run behind Calvin Oftana and AmielCrisSoberano to push the lead to 56-44 on a buzzer-beating putback by Potts.
The Red Lions widened the lead further in the final quarter with Potts scoring consecutive baskets to build its largest lead of the match at 77-57 on two free throws by Benedict Adamos and a basket by JomariPresbitero./PN
