BACOLOD City – San Carlos City will host the 1st District boxing elimination of the 5th Negros First Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon Jr., Boxing Cup Open Championship.
The elimination will be on the first week of August, said boxing coordinator Bert Alison.
It will select district boxing champions to see action in the finals this October at the BAYS Center here.
The championship will be part of the MassKara celebration of Bacolod City.
The 1st District is composed of Escalante and San Carlos cities; Toboso, Calatrava and Don Salvador Benedicto towns.
1st District boxers won the Cup last year held in La Carlota City. It was a back-to-back title for them after winning the finals held in Silay City in 2012.
They collected eight gold and seven silver medals to capture the overall championship.
Angel “Nonong” Verdeflor, Negros Occidental sports coordinator, said hundreds of boxers from the entire province will vie for titles in different weight categories./PN
