San Enrique crash kills 19-year-old

ILOILO City – A 19-year-old resident of Barangay Tambunac, San Enrique, Iloilo died when the motorcycle he was driving crashed against a truck. His two riders were injured.

Kennel Dave Marfil sustained head injuries. He was taken to the Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Passi City where he was pronounced dead.

The wounded – 21-year-old Eduardo Palabrica and a 17-year-old boy – were taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.

The victims were bound for the San Enrique town proper when the crash happened at 8:20 p.m. on April 27, said Senior Inspector Fernando Punzalan Jr., municipal police chief.

While negotiating a curved road considered accident-prone, Marfil lost control of the motorcycle, which headed to the other lane where the truck was, police said.

The truck driver – Roberto Famen, 43, of the same village – told the police he tried to avoid the victims but they were speeding.

Famen was arrested. He is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and two counts of frustrated homicide./PN
