ILOILO – Starting January 2019 the San Joaquin Mother & Child Hospital in the municipality of San Joaquin would be operating as a district hospital.
Its budget has been included in the 2019 provincial government proposed budget of P3,712,252,733, said Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.
The proposed provincial budget already passed the scrutiny of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s committee on appropriations on Nov. 8.
The local government of San Joaquin under the leadership of Mayor Ninfa Garin sought for a P43-million budget for the San Joaquin Mother & Child Hospital.
Banias said P17 million of this would be for the salaries of the hospital’s staff. The remaining P26 million would be for the facility’s maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE).
For now, the provincial government intends to keep the San Joaquin Mother & Child Hospital as a 10-bed hospital until such time the capitol has enough funds to improve it into a 25-bed capacity medical facility, said Banias.
He, however, clarified that the hospital won’t be limiting the number of patients it accommodates.
The operation of the San Joaquin Mother & Child Hospital is currently being shouldered by the local government of San Joaquin, aided by the Western Visayas Medical Center.
Last week, the provincial government released a P6-million financial assistance to the hospital.
“Ang P6 million is only for the MOOE sang hospital. Indi ini puede magamit sa personnel services, sa sweldo sang tawo, even the contract services kundi sa ila lang nga medicines kag supplies,” said Banias, also the chief of the provincial government’s Hospital Management Office.

* Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Poblacion, Ilawod, Lambunao
* Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Barangay Ilaya 1st, Dumangas
* Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay
* Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Barangay Rumbang, Pototan
* Jesus M. Colmenares Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Tingui-an, Balasan
