ILOILO City – The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) chief of San Lorenzo, Guimaras was shot to death.
The 58-year-old Ezequiel Cabrieto died of three gunshot wounds on his chest and head.
The shooting happened in front of the victim’s store in Barangay Cabungahan, San Lorenzo on Sunday around 6:45 p.m.
Cabrieto was attacked while on a drinking binge with his two brothers-in-law, according to Senior Superintendent Julio Gustilo, Guimaras police director.
“There were four gunmen. Three went up to Cabrieto while the other served as their driver. All concealed their faces with black bonnets,” said Gustilo.
The victim’s brothers-in-law, fearful for their lives, were not able to stop the armed men.
Before shooting Cabrieto, one of the gunmen made sure they have the right target by asking the victim’s name, said Gustilo.
A nearby security camera captured the crime. Gustilo said the San Lorenzo police hoped this could provide leads on the gunmen’s identities.
Two weeks prior to the shooting while Barangay Cabungahan was celebrating its annual fiesta, Cabrieto confronted two persons who reportedly harassed his store’s cashier, said Gustilo.
The two persons were visitors of a neighbor and were from Maasin, Iloilo, initial police investigation showed.
“That’s the lead we are pursuing. Cabrieto’s work as MDRRMO officer was not a sensitive one para patyon sya,” said Gustilo./PN
