Routs Ginebra Kings in semifinals Game 4, 102-81

MANILA ā€“ San Miguel Beermen got close to another finals stint after a 102-81 rout of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals last night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Marcio Lassiter led the way with 23 points, including five 3-pointers, while Alex Cabagnot and Arwind Santos added 19 and 16 points, respectively, for Beermen, which surged to a 3-1 series lead.

June Mar Fajardo finished with double-double 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Matthew Ganuelas-Rosser fell short of a triple-double with 12 points, 10 assists and six rebounds for the three-time defending champion.

Kings had a strong start in the opening frame and was up 19-15 before Beermen went on a run from Lassiter and Fajardo for a 19-all score. Cabagnot and Santos then rose to the occasion with inside hits to build a 32-22 edge.

Kings was still within striking distance 32-38 early in the second period when Beermen came up with consecutive triples from Lassiter, Cabagnot and Chris Ross for a 58-41 halftime advantage.

Beermen continued its torrid outside shooting in the third from Lassiter and Von Pessumal and inside hits from Santos and Ganuelas-Rosser to build its largest lead 81-53.

ā€œOur Game 3 loss was a wakeup call for us,ā€ said Beermen head coach Leo Austria. ā€œWe really worked hard in this game because (Ginebra) have the momentum after winning Game 3.ā€

Japeth Aguilar finished with double-double 31 points and 13 rebounds while LA Tenorio chipped in 20 markers for Kings, which was continued to be hurt by the injuries of Greg Slaughter and Mark Caguioa./PN
