
ANTIQUE – A P44.5-million newly-built evacuation center was turned over by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 to the local government unit (LGU) of San Remigio, Antique, on Friday, April 14.
The evacuation center was built on a 2,508.6-square-meter lot in the town’s Barangay San Rafael.
It is a high-quality facility equipped with storage rooms, a playroom, a breastfeeding room, a conference room, and conjugal rooms, among others, which will not only provide temporary shelter to people but will also bring them comfort and ease during disasters.
Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. said typhoons “Frank”, “Yolanda”, “Ondoy”, “Paeng” and several others taught them the importance of a permanent evacuation center.

Gov. Rhodora J. Cadiao, Engr. Alejandro Sollesta and Engr. Benjamin Avellana Jr. of DPWH-6, District Engr. Mark Anthony Alejo of DPWH-Antique, and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Karmila Rose Dimamay, Dante Beriong and Mayella Mae Plameras were also present during the turnover ceremony.
“Ang dya nga evacuation center pwede niyo gid magamit sa inyong seminars, sports events, kay hindi lang dya aradtunan sa panahon nga may bagyo, kundi pwede gid dya mahimo nga lugar nga pwede tun-an kag mag-party agud ang mga kabataan malingaw kesa mag droga,” said Cadiao./PN
