SAN JOSE, Antique – The establishment of road networks especially in upland barangays, education and tourism are priorities, declared San Remigio, Antique mayor Mar Mission.
Twenty-three of the 45 villages in San Remigio are not accessible during the rainy season while 14 have no access roads, he revealed.
The other priority is education, which “could open the minds of the youth in San Remigio to work hard to overcome poverty,” said Mission.
He requested the Department of Education (DepEd), Division of Antique to open an integrated school in hard-to-reach barangays.
This year, an integrated school in Barangay Sumaray became operational for earners from the eight neighboring barangays who have a hard time traversing the Sibalom River and slippery and high-sloped trails going to the nearest high school either in Barangay Barangbang or Barangay Bugo.
Two integrated schools are set to open in the next school year in Barangay Banwang Daan (Old Town) and Barangay Poblacion of San Remigio. The documentary requirements are already on process at the
DepEd Division Office.
Basic education in San Remigio is free, including the miscellaneous fees. These are paid by the municipal government. The budget of P1.4 million was allocated for such purpose.
The daycare education is also given importance. In 45 barangays, San Remigio has 64 daycare schools.
Tourism is another priority, the town being known as the summer capital of Antique.
San Remigio is hoped to become a sustainable and environmentally sound eco-tourism destination.
Mission said tourism structures should be compliant with the Comprehensive Land Use Map of the town which ensures the requirement of the Solid Waste Management Act and other environmental laws. (PIA-Antique/PN)
