MANILA – The Sandiganbayan has granted the request of former Bacolod City councilor Carlo Jose Lopez to travel to United Arab Emirates (UAE) this month.
In a two-page resolution, Sandiganbayan has granted Lopez a motion for leave of court to travel to Dubai, UAE from January 25 to 30.
The court, however, rejected Lopez’s request to travel to Japan in February and Vietnam in March.
“The motion has been granted but only for the travel to UAE in keeping with the policy of the (Sandiganbayan) to consider only one foreign travel at a time and subject to the usual terms and conditions imposed,” the resolution stated.
Lopez was charged by the Office of the Ombudsman before the Sandiganbayan with three counts of usurpation of official functions under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.
He was later ordered dismissed from service after being found guilty of grave misconduct for issuing truck ban exemptions to certain truck companies and individuals operating within the city in 2013.
In his counter-affidavit, Lopez stated that there was no deliberate intent on his part to usurp the power and authority saying that his letter to exempt was merely recommendatory./PN
