Sara farmers receive 100 heads of native chicken

ILOILO City – A total of 100 heads of native chicken were given to farmers in a roll over scheme wherein five breeding stocks per recipient is allotted for reproduction. They came from barangays Muyco, Ardemil, Tady, Alibayog, Pasig, SanLuis, Castor, Tentay, Ferraris, and Salcedo of Sara, Iloilo.  

“We aim to be the number one native chicken producer in the region, supplying throughout Western Visayas and hopefully Luzon. It is a big leap for the municipality of Sara, when the Department of Agriculture (DA) acknowledge our request for livelihood support,” said Mayor Jon Aying, during the turnover ceremony, March 23.

Jimmy G. Eledia Jr., Disaster Risk Reduction Management focal person said, DA aims to support our local farmer breeders and they are very thankful for the continued effort and perseverance of Sara Local Government Unit to uplift the livelihood of farmers.

Meanwhile, Panay Darag Breeders Association headed by Mae Gerbancia supplied the native chickens. She encouraged the farmers to continue building their livelihood through native chicken production.(DA6/RAFIS)
