BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will establish satellite voter registration centers in nine barangays in the city.
The first satellite center started operating on Saturday in Barangay Estefania. The other centers will be set up in barangays Granada, Felisa, Handumanan, Bata, Taculing, Vista Alegre, Alangilan, and Cabug until Sept. 15.
City Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia said the barangays that were selected are those that are far from the Comelec Bacolod field office located beside the Bacolod BAYS Center along San Juan Street.
“Our purpose is to come closer to the people so they can register without spending much for transportation,” Majarucon-Sia added.
Voters’ registration began on July 2 and will end on Sept. 29.
During the period, Comelec offices are open from Mondays to Saturdays – including holidays – from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in all cities and municipalities.
Aside from accepting new registrants, Comelec personnel will also serve those seeking transfer and reactivation of registration, and those applying for correction of entries.
First-time registrants need to present a valid ID – like a driver’s license, company or school ID – as proof of their correct address.
Those who would like to reactivate their registration must inform the Office of the Election Officer that they failed to vote for the past two elections while those looking to transfer their registration must show proof that they have transferred to another address.
Those eyeing correction of entries must bring proof that the entry needing correction is wrong or outdated, like a valid ID showing the correct spelling of their names or marriage certificate showing their new legal name or civil status. (With a report from PNA/PN)
