MALAY, Aklan – The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) is proposing to designate the Sambiray port as the official loading-and-unloading area for tourists who want to explore attractions in Malay other than Boracay.
The SB took this move to address complaints from tourists over the fees that come with using the Caticlan and Cagban jetty ports.
It said tourists are lamenting the “extra amount” they pay every time they use either of the two ports, which mainly cater to guests going to the world-famous island resort.
Tourists pay a P75 environmental fee and P100 terminal fee whenever they use the Caticlan port, the main jump-off point to Boracay.
Another terminal fee worth P100 is also paid every time a tourist uses the Cagban port located in the island.
The SB said these fees drive away tourists – especially those on a tight budget – to “explore the hidden natural wonders in mainland Malay.”
Malay is home to many other attractions like the Nabaoy River, Malay Eco Park, Motag Living Museum, Agnaga Falls, and Nagata Waterfalls, among others.
Making use of the Sambiray port – which already functions as a loading-and-unloading area for cargoes bound for Boracay – will allow tourists to go to these destinations without paying for an extra fee, the SB said. (With a report from Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
