ILOILO – A total of P11,025,000 worth of school projects was released by the Provincial School Board (PSB) chaired by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

Thirty-five public elementary and secondary schools benefited from the “Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya” or “BES PROBINS” program that aims to improve educational facilities.

Defensor, Vice Gov. Christine Garin, Provincial Board member Carol V Espinosa-Diaz, Iloilo Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ma. Luz de los Reyes, and other PSB members led the distribution of checks to recipient schools on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Among the projects were:

* perimeter fence in Guimbal National High School (P3,320,000);

* multi-purpose gym at Buenavista Elementary School in Leon (P2,850,000);

* classroom at Lanjagan Elementary School in Ajuy (P1.3 million);

* repair/construction of stage at Calao Elementary School in Dumangas (P500,000); and

* repair of Home Economics building in Tigbauan National High School (P200,000).

Other projects include the procurement of laptops with printers, projectors, and minor repairs of school facilities.

The budget came from the province’s Special Education Fund (SEF).

This year the provincial government allotted over P200 million for the SEF.

Priority programs and projects include building extra classrooms for the full implementation of face-to-face classes; enhancing farm schools; water systems; restrooms and laundry facilities; purchasing computers and other educational materials; and purchasing medical and dental supplies among others.

“We are developing robust classrooms, water systems, wash areas, toilets, and more,” said Defensor.

For academic year 2020 to 2021, the provincial government has set aside P160 million for public schools. (With a report from Capitol News)/PN
