ILOILO City – Sea trips from this city to Bacolod City, Manila, Cebu, and Palawan were cancelled early yesterday morning around 8 o’clock due to tropical depression “Crising.”
But by 5 p.m. sea trips resumed. The state weather bureau lifted the Signal No. 1 it hoisted over Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and northern parts of Negros Occidental.
Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica of the Philippine Coast Guard – Iloilo told Panay News early yesterday morning that trips to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental via Estancia and Dumangas towns (Iloilo province) and Lapuz port (Iloilo City), Palawan and Mindanao were affected by the cancellation.
No sea vessel of any tonnage were allowed to sail.
Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica of the Philippine Coast Guard – Iloilo said motorboats plying the Iloilo City – Guimaras route and vice versa were exempted from the cancellation because they were operating in a “special area” and the travel time was only 15 minutes.
“Crising” was about to make landfall over Hernani, Eastern Samar yesterday. According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, “Crising” maintained maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, its gustiness going up from 55 kph to 62 kph. It was moving at a pace of 17 kph west-northwest.
The estimated rainfall amount within the 150-km diameter of the tropical depression was from moderate to occasionally heavy.
Fewer areas were under Signal No. 1 by yesterday afternoon: Northern Cebu, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran and Leyte.
The weather disturbance was expected to bring heavy rains only in areas in the Visayas where it could pass through./PN
