MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte admitted he was having a hard time selecting the new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, following the controversial resignation of General Oscar Albayalde.
Duterte on Monday said he was taking his time in selecting the new PNP chief, adding that he was looking for someone “honest.”
“Wala pa. It’s kind of a – hindi naman messy, but it’s very hard to – at this time to choose a candidate na who would really (be) the appropriate guy. Mahirap eh,” Duterte added.
“Honesty. Eh kaya nga ‘yung iba o lahat halos eh may ano naman, may – may ‘but’ of the matter,” he said.
Albayalde tendered his resignation as PNP chief ahead of his mandatory retirement age on Nov. 8, following his alleged involvement in the “ninja cops” mess.
Lieutenant General (Lt. Gen.) Archie Francisco Gamboa, the current PNP officer-in-charge and Deputy Chief for Administration; Lt. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, being the Deputy Chief for Operations; and Major General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar were the names submitted to Duterte as PNP chief nominees./PN
