ILOILO – A supervisor of a security agency sustained a gunshot wound to his back and a scar on his face. He was shot and hit with a shovel by a farmer in Barangay Pal-agon, Santa Barbara town around 7:15 a.m. yesterday.

Rodrigo Zalazar, the victim, was a 65-year-old resident of Lessandra Subdivision, Barangay Jibao-an, Pavia town.

The suspect was Zaldimar Villan, 42, of Barangay Balibagan Este, Santa Barbara.

According to Police Major Jose Rey Pabalan, Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station (MPS) chief, while Zalazar was getting out of his car, Villan shot him.

After Zalazar fell on the road Villan struck him with a shovel on the face.

Police said Villan may have been angered by security guards installing a fence on the property they were working for; the fence may have made it difficult for Villan to go to his farm.

Zalazar is currently undergoing treatment at the Western Visayas Sanitarium in Santa Barbara.

The suspect, meanwhile, was detained at the custodial facility of the Santa Barbara MPS. A complaint for frustrated murder will be filed against him today, police said./PN
