Security guard, worker shot; motive still unknown

BACOLOD City – Police were still trying to determine the motive in a shooting that wounded a security guard and a workers’ union member.

Romeo Rodriquez and guard Allan Alperto Dinapo were shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay Gil Montilla, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Police identified Rodriquez, a 54-year-old resident of Barangay Gil Montilla, Sipalay City, as a member of the National Mines and Allied Workers Union Local 103 (Namawu Local 103), a former workers’ union of the defunct Maricalum Mining Corp.

Dinapo, on the other hand, is a 43-year-old resident of Barangay Canturay, Sipalay City, police said.

Rodriquez and Dinapo were talking at the latter’s post at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when the gunmen pulled over in front of them, approached and peppered them with bullets, investigation showed.

Rodriguez was hit on the abdomen while Dinapo sustained a gunshot wound on the right arm.

Responding officers brought them to the Sipalay City Infirmary, which referred them to a hospital in this city.

Police have yet to identify a suspect as of this writing. Investigation continues./PN
