MANILA – The inciting to sedition and unlawful utterances complaint filed against former president Rodrigo Duterte will be dismissed for lack of legal basis and for being “ludicrous.”
According to Duterte’s former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo, the cases filed by Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group will eventually be junked.
“Don’t they have anything sensible and productive to do other than doing foolish things?” he added. “Nicholas Torre III is a tower of ignorance and an edifice of nonsense.”
Torre filed the complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday in relation to Duterte’s suggestion to kill 15 senators to create more vacancies in the Senate and make room for his preferred senatorial bets.
Over the weekend, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called out his successor for considering killings as a solution for all problems following his joke about using a bomb to kill 15 senators.
Panelo, meanwhile, said he won’t be surprised if the senators consider Duterte’s joke as a “welcome gesture” as it “may be viewed as an unwitting acknowledgement that the administration senatorial candidates are strong and hard to beat.”
“Unlike Torre, the senators have the common sense and the humor to see the Duterte joke as an amusing and laughable remark,” Panelo said./PN
