Selected PFL matches to be aired on TV

MANILA – Selected matches of the 2020 Philippines Football League (PFL) will be aired live on television after the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) formally secured a three-year agreement with renowned airline company Qatar Airways.

PFL’s return to TV was part of the deal signed by PFF general secretary Edwin Gastanes with

Qatar Airways Group chief executive, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, at the airlines’ headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

PFL was not given the opportunity to showcase the beauty of its game on TV last season and the Copa Paulino Alcantara, although all of the league’s matches were streamed live on PFL’s website and on its Facebook page.

“The partnership will see the airline as Title Sponsor and Airline Partner of the Philippines Football League for the period 2020 until 2022,” the PFF said in a press statement.

“Its presence in the Philippines will put football to prominence. Among the marketing thrusts of the airline include on ground and online brand integration and visibility including live TV coverage of select PFL matches,” it added.

Qatar Airways prides itself as an official partner of FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) in the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019, and as a sponsor of big professional football clubs such as AS Roma (Italy), CA Boca Juniors (Argentina), and FC Bayern Munich (Germany).

“We thank Qatar Airways for their willingness to help bolster Philippine football by establishing a partnership with PFF as Airline Partner and Title Sponsor of the PFL,” said PFF president Mariano Araneta, Jr. “The PFF, together with Qatar Airways, will pave the way in forging the sustainability of professional club football in the country.”

Ceres–Negros FC, who finished last season in an unbeaten fashion en route to its third straight PFL trophy, is on a bid for its fourth this year.
