‘Sell firecrackers only in designated area’

BACOLOD City – Firecracker and pyrotechnic vendors are being reminded anew that selling in non-designated areas is prohibited.

The Reclamation Area, beside the Pope John Paul II Tower, is the lone area for the display and sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics, according to City Enforcement Team (CET) head Rey Demisana.

Over 60 vendors were granted special permits, Demisana added.

During CET’s Dec. 24 monitoring, Demisana said they spotted a downtown fruit vendor surreptitiously selling firecrackers in violation of City Ordinance (CO) 511.

CO 511, Series of 2009, regulates the manufacture, sale and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics in Bacolod City.

The CET head said they will promptly apprehend violators and confiscate their merchandize.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said the holiday season stimulates business in the city. However, “the manufacture, sale and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics pose danger, not only to the buying sector, but to the general public and should be strictly regulated through existing laws.”

The city government reminded Bacolodnons of the guidelines in the sale and use of firecrackers, particularly the ban on “atomic big triangulo”, “super lolo” and giant whistle bomb./PN
